The little village of LARAGH, just over a mile east of Glendalough,
makes a good place to stay . Places to eat are thin on the ground though:
Lynham's , a lively bar with roaring fires, is probably one of the best
places; The Wicklow Heather is a moderately expensive family restaurant
offering steaks, chops and stews; Anne's coffee shop (Easter-Oct daily;
weekends rest of year) serves hot lunches, snacks and cakes; and the tea
rooms at The Woollen Mills , about half a mile out of Laragh on the
Rathdrum road, occupy a particularly pretty location and serve scones,
desserts and open sandwiches (closed Nov to March).
If you need guidance on how to exploit the sporting opportunities of the
area, check out the rock-climbing, mountaineering, canoeing and kayaking
courses offered by the Tiglin Adventure Centre (tel 0404/40169), about
eight miles east of Glendalough near Ashford.
