KILMALLOCK |
| |
|
|
| |
| Eight miles down the main road from Lough Gur, KILMALLOCK has some
good Norman remains: a tower castle, a town gate, a Dominican friary and
a medieval stone mansion on the main street. St John's Tower Castle
stands in the middle of the street and was the town citadel - to look
inside, you need to get the key at the bungalow across the road, but
there's little to see here. Turn instead down the lane opposite and
you'll find a tiny museum (Mon-Fri 1.30-5pm; otherwise contact T. Bohan,
Lord Edward St; free) which won't take a minute to get through, unless
you lend an ear to the homemade audiovisual history of the town. |
